The Guardian have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur chose against signing one unnamed player in the summer as Ange Postecoglou got the feeling that he was primarily being driven by his desire to get out of his old club.

Spurs’ summer recruitment decisions have worked a treat, with Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison hitting the ground running in North London.

Manor Solomon also showed some promise before his injury while there is hope at the club that Brennan Johnson will prove his value over the coming weeks and months.

Postecoglou wants people who want to join Spurs

The Guardian has now explained that one of Postecoglou’s non-negotiables when deciding who to sign was to look at players who were desperate to come to the club.

The report claims that the Tottenham head coach spoke to all the players in the summer and only approved the deals if he got the right feeling about them.

The outlet reveals that the Lilywhites even passed on a player this summer as they got the impression that he was more driven by getting away from his side rather than joining Spurs.

It is explained that Postescoglou instead chose to sign another player for that position who was extremely keen to join.

I suspect the player in question is David Raya as Tottenham seemed to give up on the Spaniard and turn their attention to Vicario quite quickly in the early part of the transfer window.
