Calciomercato.it have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of two leading contenders to win the race for Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah in January.
Tottenham reportedly made contact with Chelsea over a late deal for Chalobah during the dying stages of the summer transfer window (Sky Sports) but the deal did not materialise at the time.
It was suggested by Football London last month that Spurs could reignite their interest in the English centre-back in January while The Mirror stated a couple of days ago that Chelsea have decided to sell the 24-year-old when the transfer window reopens as he is not part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
Spurs one of two leading contenders for Chalobah
Calciomercato.it have now provided an update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Chalobah while reporting on AS Roma’s interest in the centre-back.
They state that Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his backline in January and has identified the English defender as one of his ‘main targets’.
However, the report asserts that the problem for the Gialorossi is that they would face competition from Premier League clubs for Chalobah, with Tottenham and West Ham being ‘above all’ in the race for the defender’s signature.
Finally, the outlet adds that Bayern Munich could also enter the race for the Blues academy graduate in January.

Chalobah ticks quite a few boxes for Tottenham. I suspect the Lilywhites will prioritise a homegrown option, which likely leaves the Chelsea star along with Tosin Adarabiyo and Lloyd Kelly as the main options in January.
