Bukayo Saka has insisted that there is a lot more to come from Arsenal this season and his side are still capable of going up another couple of gears.

Tottenham maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with an impressive 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last Friday, but Arsenal and Manchester City showed during the weekend why many expect them to battle it out for the title once again this season.

The Gunners brushed aside Sheffield United 5-0 in what was undoubtedly their most convincing performance of the season so far while City cruised to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Bukayo Saka says Arsenal have extra gears to use

Mikel Arteta’s men fell at the final hurdle last season after being at the top of the pack for much of the campaign, and Saka has now warned their title rivals that Arsenal are hungry to put things right this time.

The England international told The Sun following his side’s 5-0 win: “There is another level for us to go to and we are pushing. Scoring five goals on Saturday shows we are getting closer. It’s the first time this season we have scored five so we are really proud and happy.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Arsenal have not been at their best this season but have continued to pick up wins, which is a hallmark of a great side.

It is not realistic to expect Spurs to compete with the Gunners this season, given that Arteta has had a four-year head start on his project compared to Ange.

I think we can potentially start planning for a title tilt next season once Ange has had a couple of more transfer windows to strengthen the squad.

Roy Keane has admitted that he is worried that Manchester United are falling behind the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

Hardly anyone would have believed you at the start of the season if you had said that Tottenham would be sitting at the top of the Premier League table after 10 matches while Manchester United would be languishing in eighth place, 11 points behind the Lilywhites.

Spurs appeared to be in turmoil, with their record goalscorer leaving and with the fan base being quite angry with the ownership, and many doubted if Ange Postecoglou would be the man to turn the ship around, given his lack of experience at the top level.

In stark contrast, United seemed to have found some continuity under Erik Ten Hag, and appeared ready to kick on and challenge the big guns after the Dutchman led them to a third-place finish and the Carabao Cup in his first season at Old Trafford.

Keane how now admitted that he is concerned that the likes of Spurs, Newcastle and others would move far ahead of Man Utd if his former club do not sort out their mess.

The pundit told Sky Sports (29/10/23 at 12:10 pm) about the Red Devils: “It looks like they are surviving every game. It’s a battle for every result – in previous years, we have been comparing how far Manchester United are behind Manchester City.

“But my worry, at this moment in time, if whatever about Manchester City, it’s all the other teams who seem to have gone past them, at this present moment in time.

“Whether you look at Spurs. Liverpool have recovered. Look where Newcastle are going. Arsenal have got stronger and Manchester United are certainly slipping behind the pack.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Man Utd fans were extremely arrogant in the summer when it was reported that Levy would not sell Kane to a direct rival, with many scoffing at the idea that Spurs were United’s direct rivals.

A lot of their fans got all giddy after one decent season and I certainly do not feel any sympathy for them at the moment.

Jermain Defoe has revealed that Eddie Nketiah ignored the North London divide and messaged him during the summer for tips on finishing and movement.

Nketiah has been handed almost 700 minutes in the first 10 games of the season for the Gunners, partly due to his impressive form and partly down to injuries to Gabriel Jesus.

The striker has taken those opportunities with both hands, netting five goals in 10 Premier League appearances (TransferMarkt). Judging by his hat-trick against Sheffield United at the weekend, it appears those Defoe tips are coming in handy.

Eddie Nketiah asked Jermain Defoe for some tips

The Spurs legend, who is currently coaching at the Tottenham academy, revealed that Nketiah messaged him on Instagram in order to seek guidance from an experienced professional.

It sounds like Defoe was more than happy to help the next generation of English strikers, although his day-to-day focus remains on coaching Tottenham’s exciting academy youngsters.

He revealed to Premier League Productions (29/10/23 at 9:10 pm): “He actually messaged me on Instagram. I thought it was a joke. Arsenal and Tottenham.

“In pre-season, he messaged me on Instagram. He wanted to speak about finishing and movement, all that sort of stuff.

“I thought you know what, I like that because that’s a young centre forward that wants to try and get as much from other players that have played the game in that position as he can. Someone who wants to learn.

“He is a good finisher. When he gets chances, I believe he will score.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Jokes and rivalries aside, it is nice to see Jermain Defoe staying involved in the game. He had such a unique way of finishing, it would be a waste not to pass his knowledge down to the next generation of players.

Fichajes.net have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are having second thoughts about signing Ivan Toney due to Brentford’s high asking price for the striker.

The report backs up what we have heard from other outlets over the last few months by revealing that both Spurs and Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Toney when his ban lapses in January.

However, it is explained that even though the 27-year-old has become quite an ‘attractive target’ for many top clubs, Brentford are determined not to budge from their stance.

Brentford are asking too much for Ivan Toney

Even though Toney would only have 18 months left to run on his contract in January, it is alleged that the Bees are not even willing to enter the negotiating table unless there is an offer of €70m (£61m).

The publication adds that this price has proven to be ‘prohibitive’ for both Spurs and Arsenal, neither of whom are willing to commit to such a high offer.

Fichajes state that both the North London sides are now seeking ‘negotiation alternatives’ with Brentford to try and reduce the cost of the operation.

Spurs Web Opinion

I wonder if by ‘negotiation alternatives’, they mean that Tottenham and Arsenal are looking to include some of their fringe players as part of the operation.

We know that Brentford can be very tough negotiators, which is why I would be surprised if Spurs get heavily involved in the race for Toney’s signature.

Ian Wright says that while it is not ideal to see Tottenham doing well, he is delighted for Son Heung-min, admitting that the Spurs captain is one of his favourite players to watch.

Son has really stepped up following Harry Kane’s departure in the summer, with the South Korean scoring his eighth goal of the season at Selhurst Park on Friday as Tottenham came away with a well-deserved 2-1 victory.

It was another professional performance from Ange Postecoglou’s men, who kept their momentum going and maintained the two-point lead at the top of the table.

Son’s goal was very well constructed, with the Lilywhites pulling Palace out of shape, playing through them from back to front before substitute Brennan Johnson laid it on a plate for the forward to thrash home from close range.

Even Ian Wright is a fan of Spurs’ Heung-min Son

Wright described the goal as beautiful and added that he was pleased to see Son keep his goalscoring run going.

When asked about Tottenham’s second goal against the Eagles, the Arsenal legend told BBC’s Match of the Day: “It’s really good and bad to see at the same time, it’s beautiful play from Tottenham. Son is one of my favourite players, I’m delighted for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Son is showing every sign that he can give Erling Haaland a run for his money in the race for the Golden Boot this season, particularly given the number of chances that we create every game.

The Sun have revealed that Arsenal are also in the race for rumoured Tottenham target Marc Guehi, who is expected to be the subject of a major bidding war next summer.

Journalist Dean Jones wrote in his column for GiveMeSport last week that Guehi is one of several central defenders that Tottenham are tracking.

He explained that while Spurs remain admirers of the England international, they are aware that his price tag will be ‘sky-high’ and any offer for him is unlikely to be accepted by Crystal Palace at the moment.

Arsenal are also keen on Spurs target Marc Guehi

According to The Sun, Arsenal are also ‘huge admirers’ of the Palace star, with Mikel Arteta viewing the defender as part of his long-term plans.

The outlet states the Eagles are not likely to offload Guehi in January and that the Gunners are ‘willing and happy to wait’ as they expect an ‘auction’ for the player next summer.

The report asserts that Palace will demand a ‘huge fee’ for the 23-year-old and are relaxed about the situation as they expect ‘massive offers’ to come their way next summer.

Finally, the publication asserts that Chelsea and Man Utd could also make a move for Guehi, with the Blues having a right to match any bid that Palace accept for the Cobham graduate.

Spurs Web Opinion

Geuhi is undoubtedly the best young English defender at the moment and there is no doubt that he will be attracting plenty of interest ahead of next summer.

I would be surprised if Tottenham get involved in a bidding war as the 23-year-old could end up costing upwards of £60m or £70m if he keeps playing as well as he is.

Arsene Wenger believes that Tottenham Hotspur will challenge the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title this season.

Those associated with Spurs are not getting carried away despite the Lilywhites sitting at the top of the table after ten matches.

Ange Postecoglou said in his post-match press conference following the win over Crystal Palace that the Tottenham players have their feet firmly planted on the ground and are focused on improving (Football.London).

Meanwhile, captain Son Heung-min has insisted that it is too early to think about a potential title challenge (Tribal Football) while vice-captain Cristian Romero has said that the Lilywhites are taking things one game at a time (Sky Sports,).

The general consensus among pundits over the last few days has been that Tottenham do not have the squad depth to challenge the likes of City (talkSPORT), but that is an assertion that Wenger disagrees with.

Arsene Wenger thinks Spurs are title contenders

When asked about Spurs’ title credentials, the Arsenal legend told beIN SPORT (via The Metro): “If I said after 10 games [they’d be] top of the league… You ask me, not a tricky question because I like always to say what I feel deeply, and I believe Tottenham will be one of the contenders for the league.

“They bought Maddison, who is a great player and who is that link from low midfield to high midfield, and added some technical creativity to the team.

“They bought Van de Ven who I find exceptional. I find him absolutely exceptional. They had weaknesses there [at the back] and last year [Hugo] Lloris didn’t have the best of seasons as well. And overall, the movement from Son into the middle looks very good.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like some pundits are now slowly coming around to the idea that Tottenham might just be serious title contenders this season.

However, with just a quarter of the campaign gone, it is too early to make confident statements about our chances, particularly with some tougher tests to come over the next few weeks.

Gareth Bale was asked whether he would have ever considered signing for Arsenal, and the Tottenham legend dismissed the possibility out of hand.

Bale is undoubtedly one of Spurs’ biggest legends of the Premier League era, with the pacy attacker arriving as a teenager from Southampton back in 2007 before evolving into one of the world’s best players during his time at White Hart Lane.

The Welshman, who went on to win five Champions League titles with Real Madrid, completed a fairytale return to the North London club on loan during the 2020-21 season.

Things did not go according to plan for Bale on his return, partly owing to his issues with then-manager Jose Mourinho (Guardian), but the 34-year-old has seemingly not allowed that to affect his love for Spurs.

Roy Massey has helped some exceptional talents develop at Arsenal, but he was also responsible for letting Harry Kane slip through his fingers. Now, the former academy coach has explained why that decision was made, and how he feels about it today.

During his time with Arsenal, Massey oversaw the progression of the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe from the academy through to the first team. Admittedly, the Gunners have a pretty prolific pipeline for young talent.

It’s one of the key reasons they are so strong right now, with homegrown talent combined with big-money signings to help Arsenal compete at the top of the Premier League.

Famously, one player Arsenal let go at a young age is Harry Kane. Luckily, he joined Tottenham shortly after, and the rest is history.

Kane went on to become Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer this year, before leaving the club for Bayern Munich in the summer.

Why did Arsenal let Harry Kane go?

Speaking to Tribal Football, Massey revealed his thinking behind releasing Kane as a youngster, and discussed how it felt to watch him succeed at Spurs.

He said: “Every time he scored a goal for Tottenham and now for England, I do scratch my head a little bit over what might have happened if he’d have stayed at Arsenal.

“Years ago, before the youth academy at Arsenal started in 1998, you would be looking at lads aged 14 and 15 years of age when they were going through puberty. Academy football came in and then you’re looking at eight-year-olds and how can you tell what an eight-year-old is going to be like by the time he gets to 19 or 20?”

On Kane, he added: “There were several lads in that sort of situation, but of course Harry Kane was exceptional. He was a very quiet lad and probably didn’t have the physical attributes that we thought was needed.

“Obviously, that’s been turned on its head and Harry Kane is one perfect example who proved that at 11 or 12 years of age, he didn’t have the physical qualities, but he gained them as he went through puberty.

“I do remember he was a lovely lad. He was so keen and enthusiastic about his game. And looking back, he had a very good touch on the ball… But… at Arsenal, there were much quicker, stronger lads with bigger personalities. Perhaps he was overshadowed a little bit.”

Contemplating what could have been, Massey suggests things might never have worked out for Kane at Arsenal anyway: “If he’d come in and signed for Arsenal at 16 or 17 in those days, he’d have been competing with Thierry Henry to get in the first team at Arsenal… And maybe he might not have had the chance to continue his career at Arsenal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I currently coach a bunch of six-year-olds, and the idea of determining which of them could make it as a Premier League player in 15 years time is insane to me.

Mistakes like letting Harry Kane go are always going to happen, as you just cannot predict how a player will develop. Luckily, it all worked out for Spurs in this instance.

Jean-Phillipe Gbamin’s career could have been very different, had his agent not persuaded him to join Everton instead of signing for big clubs like Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal back in 2019.

Most players in the footballing world probably have a ‘what if’ moment in their careers, something they can look back on as a fork in the road, which has them wondering if they made the right decision.

At the moment, in the back of most Tottenham fans’ minds is probably the tantalising idea of what Harry Kane could do in this current Ange Postecoglou system, and whether it would be any better than the incredible success we are enjoying so far this season.

As well as players who have left Spurs, there are a great number of stars who nearly joined the North London club. A report from The Athletic back in 2020 revealed the likes of Rivaldo, Eden Hazard, and Jack Grealish have all been close to becoming a Lilywhite in the past.

Gbamin was advised not to join Spurs

Jean-Phillipe Gbamin may not be quite as big a name as those stars, but he did have the option to join Tottenham from Mainz in 2019, but his agent has admitted he talked him out of it and told him to sign for Everton instead.

Speaking to The Guardian, Bernard Collignon said: “Arsenal and Tottenham wanted Jean-Philippe in 2019. Jurgen Klopp, who managed Mainz, had wanted [him] before signing Fabinho.

“But we chose Everton because if you arrive straight away at a big club in England, it’s very difficult to make it. N’Golo Kante would never have been the player he was at Chelsea if he didn’t arrive at Leicester.”

Gbamin would only make eight appearances for Everton due to injury (Transfermarkt), and was recently released as a free agent.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t say that Gbamin would have been a success at Spurs, or whether he would even have avoided his injury issues by being at a different club. But I bet he has those thoughts in his head, and at least wishes he had gone for the Spurs move instead of joining Everton.

Rather surprisingly, Tottenham Hotspur had a former Arsenal player in the stands on Monday night as Andrey Arshavin watched the Lilywhites beat Fulham.

Whatever club you support, there can be no denying that it’s a lot of fun to watch Tottenham right now. Since Ange Postecoglou took over at the club, the side has been playing exciting, attacking football, and getting the right results, too.

Spurs returned to the top of the Premier League table thanks to a 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night, putting them two points clear of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Goals from Heung-min Son and James Maddison sealed the win for the home side and maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

The Lilywhites have a chance to go five points clear at the top on Friday night when they play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the weekend’s early kick-off.

Arshavin watched Spurs game from the home end

It’s unlikely Arshavin will attend that game, but the former Russian striker was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this week to watch Spurs, despite his affiliation with their fierce rivals, Arsenal.

Arshavin shared the experience on his Instagram story, travelling to the ground and taking his seat among the Spurs fans.

Of course, Arshavin enjoyed a fantastic time during his playing days at Arsenal across the other half of North London. He scored 31 goals and provided 46 assists in 144 games for the Gunners (Transfermarkt).

Funnily enough, Arshavin did admit that he once nearly joined Spurs before Arsenal swooped for him (talkSPORT).

Spurs Web Opinion

Who can blame Andrey Arshavin for wanting to go and watch the best team in London? He may have played for Arsenal but he’s clearly seen the light since he retired and he’s welcome at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium any time he wants to watch proper football.

Erik Lamela has admitted that his history and connection with Tottenham Hotspur gives him an added reason to perform well in Sevilla’s upcoming Champions League clash against Arsenal.

One of the reasons Lamela was adored by the Tottenham faithful was because of his tendency to wear his heart on his sleeve and give his all for the shirt.

The winger would often put his body on the line and fly into tackles, which was especially the case during derby matches.

Lamela has given Spurs fans a couple of memorable North London derby memories, including his Rabona goal back in 2021, which won the Puskas award.

The 31-year-old’s altercation with Jack Wilshere on the pitch is also fondly remembered by a lot of Tottenham supporters.

Erik Lamela wants to get one over on Arsenal again

The Argentine will now get to take on the old enemy yet again, with the Gunners travelling to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium to take on Sevilla tonight, and he admitted that he is keen to do well against Mikel Arteta’s men.

Lamela told Marca: “Arsenal work very well as a team, being Premier League, physical and fast. I always want to win. In the past, I played for Tottenham and it means something to me. I love them very much. This game is special because of the rivalry, yes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that we will see Lamela fly into tackles against the Arsenal players later this evening if he does start for the La Liga side.

In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham in their pursuit of Ivan Toney, The Athletic have suggested that Arsenal may not be able to sign the Brentford star in January since they will have to work with a small budget.

We at Spurs Web have relayed several reports over the last few weeks that have claimed Spurs are set for a three-way battle with Arsenal and Chelsea for Toney, who is ready to leave Brentford in January (Daily Express).

The Daily Mirror stated a few weeks ago that the Gunners are confident of persuading the England international to choose them over their London rivals.

However, this was contradicted by journalist Dean Jones, who told TEAMtalk a few days ago that Arsenal are yet to make a final decision on whether to move for Toney since they also need to strengthen in other areas of the pitch.

Limited budget for Arsenal could hurt Toney pursuit

The Athletic have now suggested that Mikel Arteta’s men will only have a limited budget to work with in January.

This is because they are concerned about breaching Financial Fair Play, which is why the Emirates hierarchy opted to sign David Raya on an initial loan deal in the summer.

The publication asserts that there ‘isn’t much budget or desire to do significant business in January’ at Arsenal and adds that things are unlikely to change unless there are significant departures.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Arsenal seemingly not having the budget for a move for Toney and Chelsea having a policy of signing players under 25, it is possible that Spurs could have a relatively free run at the Brentford star if they are interested.

However, I doubt if the North London club would consider paying anything more than £60m for the England international’s services, which might not be enough to persuade the Bees to sell.

David Seaman says he is starting to worry about Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that he has changed his mind about the Lilywhites’ prospects this season.

Most people, including the majority of Spurs fans, were expecting this to be a transitional season under Ange Postecoglou, given the loss of Harry Kane and the fact that the Australian made slow starts to his time at Celtic and Yokohama Marinos before those teams started clicking into gear.

However, in contrast, Spurs have come racing out of the blocks this season, with the players already seeming to have a very clear understanding of what the manager expects from them.

The Lilywhites were completely written off from the race for the top four at the start of the season, with some pundits even suggesting that they might struggle to finish in the top half of the table (Football Insider).

David Seaman is starting to get worried about Spurs

Seamen revealed that he was one of those questioning Tottneham’s Champions League credentials at the start of the season, but admitted that Postecoglou’s men have proven him wrong.

He said on Seaman Says podcast: “The fact that it’s eight games and Spurs haven’t been Spursy is a worry! It just shows they are ticking along nicely.

“Top four, I don’t think they were in it in our predictions at the start of the season. The form they are in now is impressive and it’s not even got Ange excited yet, so who knows what they will be like when he does get excited! They are on form and they are going to be difficult.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is still very early days in the season, with not even a quarter of the campaign done. While Spurs fans have every right to get excited, we should not lose sight of where the club were just a few months ago when Ange took over and have the perspective to realise that a top-four finish would be an outstanding achievement.

Yves Bissouma has revealed that the Tottenham players were disappointed with their 2-2 draw at the Emirates last month, insisting that they could have emerged with all three points had they been braver.

The Emirates has not been a happy hunting ground for Spurs sides over the last couple of years and many pundits expected Tottenham’s bubble to burst when they made the trip across North London.

In fact, the likes of Paul Merson even suggested ahead of the game that the Lilywhites would be blown away by the Gunners if they tried to play expansive, attacking football (Sportskeeda).

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men controlled proceedings for large parts of the encounter and came away with a deserved 2-2 draw, with the home side only getting on the scoresheet due to a penalty and a Cristian Romero own-goal.

Bissouma insisted that he and his teammates did not stick to their principles in the first half, which is why they had to make do with a draw.

Spurs were gutted with just a draw away to Arsenal

The Mali international told Colinterview – Oh My Goal about the 2-2 draw: “Yeah. Yeah we’re disappointed. It was a very good game but we didn’t respect our principles. If we had respected our principles, we would’ve won the game.

“Especially the first half. There were 2 or 3 mix-ups, and then [this or that]. We knew they would start the game pressing us because they know we play with the ball now.

“We knew it, we knew it all. But you know, during the game things happen. But no one is surprised at all and I’m telling you, some results we’re actually disappointed by.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou evidently has very high standards in terms of the style of play he expects from his side and is seemingly process-oriented rather than results-oriented.

So, even though we came away with an admirable result against Arsenal, it appears as if he has stressed to the side that he was not pleased with the lack of bravery they showed on the ball during parts of the first half.

Dean Jones has revealed his sources have claimed that Arsenal are yet to make a final decision on whether or not to pursue rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney in January.

Over the past few weeks, multiple outlets have reported that Spurs are set to compete with Arsenal and Chelsea for Toney’s signature when his ban lapses in January.

This includes The Daily Express, who revealed on September 23 that the centre-forward has already expressed his desire to leave Brentford and that the Bees have started looking for potential replacements.

The Daily Mirror reported on September 28 that Mikel Arteta is hopeful of convincing the England international to move to the Emirates over their London rivals.

The report explained that having persuaded Declan Rice to pick them over other Premier League sides in the summer, the Gunners believe that they could also do the same with the Bees star by explaining their big ambitions to the player.

Ivan Toney

Should Spurs try and beat Arsenal to Ivan Toney?

However, Jones has now suggested that reports of Arsenal readying a move for Toney are premature, insisting that Arteta’s men might not want to spend a huge fee on a striker when they also need reinforcements in other areas of the pitch.

The journalist said (via TEAMtalk): “There continues to be a lot of noise around Ivan Toney potentially joining Arsenal but my understanding of the situation is that there has not even been a decision yet on Arsenal signing a striker, so to expect them to sign one at around £80m really is a stretch.

“It seems pretty clear that Toney is up for that move, he’s talking about them in a very positive way and I don’t blame him for wanting to join a club like that.

“But it’s a lot of money and Arsenal are also having to weigh up if they might need some sort of backup to Bukayo Saka in the second half of the season so this is a very layered situation.

“And that’s before we even consider that spending big on Toney in January would seriously impact on their spending next summer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Irrespective of whether Arsenal are ready to pay £80m for Toney, I simply cannot see Spurs being willing to commit such a big amount on a single player as that is not the club’s business model.

I expect the Lilywhites to focus on signing a centre-back and a midfielder in January, and to address the striker issue next summer.

Voetbal Krant have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are both battling for Club Brugge star Andreas Skov Olsen ahead of the January transfer window.

Olsen has been a revelation in the Belgian top flight following his switch from Bologna to Club Brugge last summer in the summer of 2022.

The winger has made an extremely impressive start to the new campaign, with seven goals and two assists in ten league matches so far in addition to three goals and an assist in six Europa Conference League matches (Transfermarkt).

Spurs and Arsenal set for battle for Skov Olsen

Voetbal Krant now claim that the pacy attacker is now in his ‘final months’ at Brugge as a transfer is imminent in January.

The report states that while there has been plenty of speculation about the 23-year-old in the past, the interest in his services is ‘concrete’ this time around.

It is explained that Spurs have been following Olsen’s progress for some time now but have not made a proposal yet to Brugge.

It is alleged that the interest of their North London rivals, Arsenal, is now ‘gaining momentum’, with discussions now ‘underway’ between the Gunners and the Belgian club about the Dane.

Spurs Web Opinion

The injuries to Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon mean that Tottenham will likely enter the market for a wide player in January.

We know that Olsen is a player that they looked at closely in the past, which is why a move from the Lilywhites for the Brugge star cannot be ruled out.

Arsenal duo, Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale both showered praise on James Maddison after the Tottenham man’s latest social media post.

Maddison has been one of the standout players across the Premier League this season, having taken his game to a new level since his switch to Tottenham in the summer.

The attacking midfielder was a regular in previous England squads but he is now starting to feature more often in the starting eleven, winning his fifth cap for the Three Lions in their 1-0 win over Australia at Wembley last week.

The Spurs star dropped back to the bench against Italy on Tuesday, with Gareth Southgate opting to start with Jude Bellingham as the most advanced midfielder as England sealed qualification for next summer’s European championship with a 3-1 win.

North London rivalries go out the window

Maddison took to Instagram to post a series of pictures with his international teammates with the caption ‘October camp’, with Rice responding with ‘My brother mann!’ while Ramsdale wrote ‘Ledge’.

Bellingham commented: ‘What a human’ on the Spurs star’s post.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that the current England squad is extremely tight and they genuinely enjoy each other’s company, which was evidently not the case for the golden generation.

Southgate deserves some credit for fostering the right atmosphere around the group as that is something he clearly takes into account while selecting the squad.

Bacary Sagna has become the latest ex-player to dismiss Tottenham’s chances of sustaining a title bid, stating that he expects the Lilywhites to collapse sooner rather than later.

Spurs have undoubtedly been the surprise package of the season so far, with hardly anyone giving them a chance of even competing for the top-four spot before the start of the campaign.

However, eight games in, Ange Postescoglou’s men are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, with the Australian managing to successfully implement a possession-based, high-temperature style of play.

Tottenham’s position in the table has sparked debate over their prospects this season, with many pundits, including the likes of Gary Neville, opining that the North London club simply do not have the squad depth to sustain their current run of form (Gary Neville podcast).

Ex-Arsenal star shocks the world with anti-Spurs view

Sagna has now insisted that Spurs do not have the star power needed to sustain a title challenge, remarking that Son is the only player of the required calibre to do so.

The former Arsenal right-back told The Sun: “The title race will be between Arsenal and Manchester City as Spurs will collapse, as usual.

“And that’s not just me speaking as an Arsenal fan. I don’t see them being consistent enough all season. Apart from Heung-Min Son, I don’t see anyone in that team that can lead the team or play a vital role in Spurs’ title race.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We are only at the start of our project under Postecoglou and it is not realistic to expect us to challenge the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal at the moment. A top-four finish would be an outstanding achievement for the Australian in his first season in charge.

Sport have revealed that Arsenal are now leading the race for Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Vermeeren established himself as a mainstay in Antwerp’s midfield last season and has begun the new campaign in fine form, with five assists and a goal in 15 appearances across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

90min reported a couple of days ago that the central midfielder is on the radar of several Premier League clubs, including Spurs and Arsenal, ahead of the January transfer window.

Arsenal leading the race for Arthur Vermeeren

If Sport’s latest update is to be believed, it is the Gunners who are at the front of the queue to win the race for Vermeeren’s signature.

The report discusses Barcelona’s interest in the 18-year-old, revealing that the La Liga giants have scouted the youngster extensively and have been impressed by what they have seen.

However, the report states that the Catalan club’s current financial situation is a big roadblock to any move, with Arsenal willing to pay a bigger fee for the Belgian international.

The outlet adds that Mikel Arteta has insisted that the Arsenal hierarchy win the race for Vermeeren when the transfer window reopens.

The publication also names Liverpool, Manchester United, West Ham United, Brighton, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Ajax and Monaco as clubs interested in the midfielder but makes no mention of Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham’s transfer policy has now shifted towards identifying and securing the best young talent around the world as evidenced by the signings of Alejo Veliz and Luka Vuskovic recently. So, I would not be surprised if we see Spurs get heavily involved in the race for Vermeeren.
